Paleosols of different ages characterise pedogenesis in accumulative and transaccumulative positions of ancient natural landscapes. The origin and nature of modern paleosols has been determined by close connection of morpholytogenetic basis with the type of soil formation. A general tendency of humus formation (i. e. increasing depth of humification, acidization of substrate) and activation of salinization processes in the Kolyma lowland extracontinental climate conditions during pedogenesis in some termochronosequences 2.5–25 Kyr BP has been revealed.

Key words: Cryolithozone, paleosols, humus substances, type of humus, fraction composition, acidity of soils, salt profile, type and chemical characteristics of salinization.
