Complications at well drilling in cryolithozone connected with gas hydrate decomposition are considered in order. These complications can be considered indirect signs of technogenic character of natural gas hydrates existence. For a substantiation of indirect signs of gas hydrates presence in cryolithozone the analysis of possible processes is carried out at opening gas hydrates strata with the use of mathematical modelling and analytical research. The reasons of occurrence of revealed features and the phenomena accompanying them are considered. The relation ship between gas–water–ice–hydrate phase transitions in rocks and complications in the course of drilling is shown.

Key words: Gas hydrates, cavitations, Stefan problem, indirect indicators.
