The article presents the main milestones of the academic career of Professor Vyacheslav Konishchev, doctor of geographical sciences and a prominent representative of the famous school of cryolithology at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Vyacheslav Nikolaevich is an expert in the study of the Earth’s cryosphere, of its historic and modern development. For many years, Professor Konishchev studied cryogenic formations in the Bolshezemelskaya tundra and Northern Yakutia, having developed the fundamental principles of analysis of loess-like cryogenic strata. He discovered the patterns of the evolution of the Earth’s cryosphere and proposed methods for assessing the ecological state of the permafrost.
